Greater Lincolnshire produces 12% of England’s food, handles 30% of the UK’s total food logistics, and has a growing talent base of over 75,000 skilled workers.
- We have leading specialisms & clusters in agriculture, food processing, food logistics, agritech, robotics, & research
- This is important for sustainable production, good jobs, & national food security
- We work with businesses, academics & investors to develop & attract skills & investment into Lincolnshire
- Collectively we call this the UK Food Valley and are promoting the cluster as an internationally significant centre of excellence & concentration of food chain businesses
The UK Food Valley is doubling its contribution to the economy between 2010-30 through cluster growth, major investments in production capacity, & an ambitious programme to support growth through new skills & knowledge - to drive an increase in sector expertise & leadership, & deliver national food security.
Key priorities for the UK Food Valley are to:
- Position the UK Food Valley as a Top 10 Global Cluster and national lead in food security solutions
- Accelerate food chain automation and digital technology adoption to deliver productivity growth and high value jobs
- Deliver resilient food chains from farm to fork by focusing on low carbon and energy efficient technologies for production, processing and distribution
- Develop the market potential of naturally good for you foods and healthy sources of protein, such as fish, vegetables, salads, fruit, pulses and lean meat, in which Greater Lincolnshire specialises.
- Make Greater Lincolnshire the national testbed for food security innovation and agritech commercialisation.
- Expand the Farming Forum as a policy influence platform.
